Passionate About Community

Compassion is an essential element of our work and as a firm we show this through more than just our core business – we have a commitment to our communities and demonstrate this through our charitable giving.

Toowoomba Clubhouse Neighbourhood Christmas Appeal 2016

We strive to give back to the community, and in 2016 we raised over $1,000.00 for the Toowoomba Clubhouse Neighbourhood Christmas Appeal in support of the Toowoomba Hospital foundation.

The Neighbourhood Christmas Appeal was a luncheon for those people who are experiencing difficulties and cannot enjoy and experience the Christmas period.

Our support went to providing a 3-course Christmas lunch for over 10 people, ultimately providing them with some Christmas festivities and cheer!

Western Districts Netball Association

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, for our children

This year BWB is proud to announce the sponsorship of Raider’s Netball Club.

Raiders Netball Club was founded in 1994 and plays in the Western Districts Netball Association, out of Faulkner Park, Acacia Avenue and Graceville. The club was formed to provide a friendly atmosphere in which to play Netball. Priding themselves on sportsmanship and fostering and developing a love of the sport in all their players, Raiders Netball is a great locally run club.

At BWB we love giving back to the community and what better way than to encourage a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, for our children.

Go Raiders!

Toowoomba Branch of the Kokoda Youth Foundation

Supporting young people experience a leadership program

Kokoda Challenge 2016

BWB Family Law has been involved in the Toowoomba Kokoda Challenge since it commenced in 2014. On Sunday 20 March 2016 the team from BWB Family Law again took part again in the 30 Kilometre corporate event.

After a few stretches and some motivational words our BWB Wanderers made up of Max Sutton, Annabel Myatt, Emily Myatt and Neal Wood set off.

As they crossed the line over 8 hours after they started and with the crowd of over 1,200 reduced to a handful of event organisers they were stunned to be awarded medals and announced as the winners of the Hutchinson Builders 30Km Corporate Challenge. By staying on their feet while other teams had either withdrawn or finished with less members than they started our BWB Wanderers had managed their very own “Steven Bradbury” win.

In an event like the Kokoda challenge where the real winners are the young people that benefit from the great work of the Kokoda Youth Foundation, winning and medals are not really what it’s about. After 30 kilometres in the heat with more hydration, sports nutrition, compression tights and GPS watches than you could ever need one can only begin to glimpse what it would have been like to trek in the PNG jungle over 50 years ago. We would like to think however that by finishing (albeit with a lot of groaning and sore muscles) our BWB Wanderers have a better insight into why the events mantra is to Run in the spirit of Kokoda – Courage. Endurance. Mateship. Sacrifice.

For our efforts we have also raised over $1,000 for the Toowoomba Branch of the Kokoda Youth Foundation which will remain in the community to support the great program which sees young people experience a leadership program which culminates in a trip to PNG to trek the real Kokoda Track.

Helping the Disadvantaged with Free Legal Assistance

Our Emily Myatt is a committed volunteer at The Advocacy & Support Centre’s (TASC) Toowoomba location. TASC provides free legal services to vulnerable and marginalised members of the community in Toowoomba, Ipswich and South West Queensland. As a firm we’re proud of the selfless acts of our staff, and the opportunity to provide some support to an essential legal service in our community.

Raising money for a good cause

Best Wilson Buckley Family Law are delighted to be sponsoring, and participating, in Griffo’s Challenge for 2015.

Griffo’s Challenge is a 21km half marathon (or 7km casual run/walk) around the Brisbane River to raise funds for brain cancer, that is taking place on 21 August. Griffo’s story is quite amazing and we are happy to be a part of such a great event this year.

As well as sponsoring the event, we also have a team participating in the run and volunteering on the day. If you would like to sponsor our team of solicitors and paralegals please do so via the link below – it really is going to a great cause.

The Best Wilson Buckley Team

Kokoda Challenge

Since 2004 the Kokoda Youth Foundation has been supporting young Australians in the Spirit of Kokoda – courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

The Best Wilson Buckley Family Law team has participated in the challenge in both 2014 and 2015. In 2015 Dan Buckley, Zoe Adams and Neal Wood stepped up to take on the 30km trek through the mountains in Toowoomba and not even heavy rain for the days leading up to the event could turn them away.

Partnering with USQ

Investing in the future

Student Awards

We believe in supporting the next generation of legal talent and have maintained a close relationship with the University of Southern Queensland’s Law Faculty over a number of years.

BWB sponsors the Best Advocate Prize for USQ’s Secondary Schools Mooting Competition, which started in 2014.

Our seasoned team, including Andrew McCormack and Neal Wood, both volunteer time to coach teams and provide mooting tips to USQ students, providing some valuable insight into mooting.

The final for 2015 took place on Sunday 16 August, and after a worthy competition St Joseph’s College was awarded as the winning team. BWB’s Best Advocate Prize was awarded to Ms Clancy Tully of Downlands College.

The 2014 Best Wilson Buckley Advocate’s Prize was awarded to an advocate from St John’s Anglican College at Forest Lake.

The Flower Project

Recognition for carers

The Flower Project

We were recently given the privilege of being introduced to The Flower Project Foundation, and hosted a Flower Arranging Workshop in Brisbane.

The Flower Project is not your average charity. They do not raise funds to support one particular cause; rather they support everyone and anyone’s cause in their own unique way. They are a charity who brightens people’s lives through the simple, but powerful gift of giving flowers.

The Flower Project enables people to “nominate” a recipient who they believe is in need of a ‘’pick me up”, or deserves a little bit of recognition for their efforts in the community, such as carers, foster parents or maybe a volunteer in the community.

Bouquets of flowers can also be purchased through the charity (through their partner Petals Network), like you would any other florist. A generous 20% of the costs of the order go back to the charity to help with the funds required for the recipient bouquets.

We encourage you to read more about The Flower Project, their work, or even order a bouquet!
