Alecia Featherstone
Alecia is a Senior Associate at Best Wilson Buckley Family Law and is the Practice Leader and founding member of our North Lakes office.
Alecia has practised exclusively in family law since 2011. Prior to joining the Best Wilson Buckley team in 2016, she worked in firms across north Brisbane and has developed strong relationships with colleagues throughout the family law fraternity in Brisbane and surrounds. Alecia is energetic, affable, and approachable, and has a passion for working with clients to provide them with practical and easy to understand advice whilst being sensitive to the emotional and psychological difficulties associated with separation. Alecia regularly volunteers at the Pine Rivers Community Legal Centre where she provides free legal advice to members of her local community who otherwise would not be in a position to afford private representation for their family law matters.
Outside of the law, Alecia is heavily involved with the Brisbane Netball Association. The leaderships skills developed through her time with the club have made for an easy transition into her role of Practice Leader where she provides leadership to our North Lakes team as well as daily operational support to our Legal Practice Director and Legal Partners.
Expertise and Professional Qualifications
In addition to her Bachelor of Laws and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Alecia holds a Bachelor of Psychology and a Diploma in Children’s Services. Combining these experiences and her formal education, Alecia has become extremely effective in dealing with difficult parenting and children’s matters involving relocation, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health issues, and communication difficulties between parents. These experiences have also allowed her to develop a high level of skill in resolving domestic and family violence matters, particularly those involving emotional and financial abuse, and complex property settlement matters involving spousal maintenance and the division of assets.
Alecia is also an experienced surrogacy lawyer and has acted for both birth mothers and intended parents in obtaining parentage orders in the Children’s Court. She is well-rehearsed in preparing Surrogacy Agreements and finds great satisfaction in acting for families in this area of law.
