Alecia Featherstone
Hello, I’m Alecia.
I’m a North Lakes family lawyer and Brisbane family lawyer, and the Legal Practice Director of Best Wilson Buckley. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and our team.
I’ve been working as a specialist family lawyer since 2011. In addition to my legal qualifications, I hold a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Psychology and a Diploma in Children’s Services, and in my past life, I was even the Director of a child care centre. This unique combination of experiences and formal qualifications has helped me to build a really thorough understanding of various family dynamics and the needs of children, which assists me and my clients each and every day now that I’m a family lawyer.
Why family law?
For me, a big part of my identity is influenced by the relationships I build with those I meet in my life. Family law is an area that allows me to build relationships built on trust with people who are sometimes experiencing very stressful or challenging times, and who might be feeling particularly vulnerable. I would be lying if I said family law wasn’t challenging, however there are so many experiences and client outcomes that just make it so rewarding.
I do not see family law as a chore, but rather a choice I made many years ago and one that I continue to embrace with enthusiasm every single day. It’s a choice that allows me to make a positive, tangible, and unquantifiable difference to not only my client’s lives, but also their children’s lives. I also love coming to work with such a supportive and fun team each day.
How do clients describe your approach?
My clients have described my approach as sensitive and responsive to their needs. I pride myself on being pragmatic and clear in my communication with my clients through each stage of their family law journey. Family law is an incredibly complex area of the law, and my aim is to provide you with practical and easy to understand advice in a way that is sensitive to the emotional and psychological difficulties often associated with separation.
As a parent myself, the children impacted by a family law dispute are always at the forefront of my considerations, and I enjoy working with my clients to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved for their children. I also find great fulfilment with assisting people in obtaining a level of financial security and independence after such a significant change and upheaval has occurred in their life.
