Natalia Hutchison

Hi, I’m Natalia.

I’m a Solicitor at Best Wilson Buckley Family Law.

Since 2021, I have worked exclusively in family law with Best Wilson Buckley, drawing on four years of prior experience in commercial litigation where I provided high-level support across complex matters. This background has given me a strong foundation in strategy, preparation and attention to detail, skills I continue to use every day to support and assist my clients.

I work closely with individuals and families going through separation and other significant life changes. Much of my work involves guiding people through complex and emotionally challenging situations, often where there is heightened risk or difficult dynamics at play. I understand how overwhelming these processes can feel, and I focus on providing clear, practical advice while ensuring my clients feel supported, informed and confident at every step.

My experience across child protection, domestic and family violence, family law and criminal jurisdictions allows me to take a broad, tactical view of matters and anticipate issues that may arise across different legal systems. This enables me to guide clients through the complexities that often come with cross-jurisdictional matters in a clear and measured way.

I am known within the team for my innovative and efficient approach, bringing positive energy and a proactive mindset  to every aspect of my work. My efforts have been recognised across the profession, being named a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards in 2024 and 2025, and as a finalist in the Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards in 2025.

Why family law?

Like a surprisingly large number of my colleagues, I didn’t originally see myself working in family law when I started my law degree. However, after an opportunity in 2019 to be a Youth Member in the Queensland Youth Parliament’s Child Safety, Youth, and Women Committee presented itself, I knew I wanted to work in an industry that allowed me to make a positive difference. This experience came around at a really foundational time in my life, and it was eye-opening to witness the struggles that individuals face when going through separation and domestic and family violence in particular. So, after working in corporate litigation for almost four years and as I was nearing the end of my law degree, I decided to make a change and work in a field where I could see the tangible, encouraging impact my work was having on those who needed support the most. Looking back, I can say with certainty that I absolutely made the right decision.

How would client's describe your approach?

Clients often describe my approach as compassionate, strategic and practical. I take the time to understand each client’s situation and provide clear, realistic advice, while thinking creatively about the best way to achieve meaningful outcomes. I am persistent and determined in my advocacy, and I do not shy away from navigating roadblocks or complex systems where required.

I place a strong emphasis reducing unnecessary conflict and delay wherever possible, particularly to avoid unnecessary costs. However, I have been described as persistent and determined in my advocacy, as I do not shy away from navigating roadblocks or complex systems where required.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing clients leave our first meeting feeling supported, informed and confident, with a clear pathway forward. Equally rewarding is seeing the relief clients experience when their matter is finalised and they are able to move forward with their lives.
