Hi, I’m Shaun.

I’m an experienced family lawyer in Ipswich.

I joined the Best Wilson Buckley team at the start of 2024, but my legal career began more than a decade ago in the world of criminal law.  Whilst working for a community legal service as a criminal lawyer, I was given some exposure to family law and, as corny as it sounds, never looked back.  I instantly fell in love with the family law process and pathways, and the tailored approach the family law courts adopt when dealing with matters.  After all, each family law matter is as unique as the family at the centre of it.  I’ve worked as a family lawyer both in community legal centres and private law firms since early 2015 and throughout the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and Brisbane areas.

Why family law?

When someone engages a family lawyer, whether they have already separated or are merely contemplating it, it is normally at one of the worst times of their lives.  I enjoy being able to sit with clients and explain to them the various aspects of separation (some of which aren’t even on their radar) and know that when they leave our office, they are armed with all the information necessary to assist with the next stage of their decision-making process.

Although clients understandably want their family law matters to be over as quickly as possible, the reality is they are often marathons, not sprints.  I enjoy being there to guide clients throughout the entire process, ensuring they understand what’s happening at every step of the way, and ultimately helping them to reach a resolution that is future-proof, in their best interests, and, most importantly, in the best interests of any children involved.

How do clients describe your approach?

Having worked in family law for more than a decade, I possess an intricate understanding of both the theory and practicalities of the family law system.  My clients have provided feedback that confirms they felt empowered throughout their family law journey as a result of my ability to translate this complex landscape into layman’s terms.  Given the human nature of family law is what I enjoy the most, I gain a lot of satisfaction by connecting with clients through one of the more difficult periods of their life and acting as a source of support and guidance for them.
