Victoria Laing-Short
Hello, I'm Victoria.
I'm a Ipswich family lawyer at Best Wilson Buckley.
Throughout my 18 year career in law, I've had the privilege of working with individuals and families from all walks of life, helping them navigate challenging circumstances and move forward with confidence.
My passion for family law comes from a genuine desire to achieve outcomes that make a positive difference to families and children. I understand that seeking legal advice can be daunting, particularly when it involves the people and relationships that matter most. Being trusted to guide someone through such a personal and emotional time is something I never take for granted.
Background
My professional journey has been anything but conventional, and I believe that is one of my greatest strengths.
Before entering the legal profession, I worked in both the science and medical fields, experiences that helped shape my analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities and understanding of people.
Since being admitted as a lawyer, I've worked extensively across Queensland, particularly in Far North Queensland and South East Queensland. Much of my legal career has been spent within community legal centres and not-for-profit organisations, including senior positions as a Senior Solicitor and Principal Legal Officer.
I also spent three years operating my own construction law firm, providing me with valuable experience in business ownership, management and the practical challenges that come with running a business.
I began my legal career as a generalist in community legal centres, where I gained experience across a broad range of legal matters. Over time, I found myself naturally drawn to family law and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. When the opportunity arose to specialise, I embraced it wholeheartedly and have dedicated more than ten years to the field.
Why Family Law?
For me, family law is about so much more than legal processes and outcomes. It's about people, their families and helping them navigate significant changes in their lives.
I find it incredibly rewarding to support clients through what can be one of the most emotionally challenging periods they will experience. Every family has its own story, and I believe the legal guidance they receive should reflect their individual circumstances, priorities and hopes for the future.
My greatest motivation is knowing that the work I do can contribute to positive, meaningful outcomes for families and, most importantly, children.
My Approach
I believe that good legal representation starts with listening.
I pride myself on being open, approachable and genuinely invested in understanding the people I work with. No two families are the same, and I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to family law. I take the time to understand each client's unique circumstances, concerns and goals so that the guidance I provide is both practical and tailored to their needs.
My aim is to create an environment where clients feel comfortable, heard and supported, while giving them the clarity and confidence they need to make informed decisions about their future.
